Cupcake Icing..

So I've been dying to know how you get your icing to look like the icing on these cupcakes. I know it's a round tip, but I can't seem to figure out the number and type of icing that will pipe like this. If anyone knows please leave a comment below! Thanks in advance, and have a wonderful week :)

  1. Hey Kate, love the blog and congrats on your October wedding! I can tell you the round tip that I use to make a similar decoration, Wilton #12 Large Round and I love using the Jumbo 1M star tip for cupcakes as well. I would recommend buying a pack of wilton tips, couplers, and bags at your local craft store (they even have a cupcake kit). If your looking for lessons, I took the cake decorating classes at my craft store and they were great in learning the basic techniques! Good Luck and can't wait to see more, thanks!

  2. I use the #12 large round as well! You can pick it up at Michael's for around $2. These cupcakes look AMAZING, by the way!

  4. Hi Kate, I use Ateco tips for my cupcakes. I get them at a local restaurant supply store here in VT, but you can order them directly from August Thomsen, or from here:

The tip I use for everything but chocolate is a plain 808 (#8) or 809 (#9).
For chocolate I use star tips (I think plain make brown frosting look like something else ;)

  5. I use the #12 tip as well.. frosting should be medium to thin consistancy which you will learn about in your Wilton classes

  6. Bake it Pretty has a best-ever cupcake icing kit (which isn't available on her site at the moment). It has a giant round tip that I use to pipe a quarter-sized ball onto the cupcake, then flatten it out and repeat (smaller sized balls as you repeat).
